Initiative Reflections

...and we're back!  We hope you've enjoyed your month-long hiatus from blogging.

This blog is due on Monday, April 1 - this is not an April Fool's joke.  Its four parts are listed below.

Part I
Define initiative.  What does it look like in action?  Why do we prioritize it as a BLF Area of Focus?

Part II
Interview someone (anyone) on their experience in taking initiative.  Ask questions to identify the situation, how they took initiative, and what their impact on that sitaution was.  Write a brief summary of this interview.

Part III
What were your reactions to the exeriences of the Young Alumni present at the panel and reception?  What did you learn from their stories?  How might you integrate these into your life habits?

Part IV
Please tie Parts I-III of this blog together in a meaningful manner.  What does all of this mean for your life?

Personal Identity

This week's blog will continue our discussion on personal identity.  As we did not have enough time to view the "What Would You Do?" clip, please take 10-minutes to watch the video below:

Once you've finished viewing this, please record your answers to the following questions on your iPad, as we will use them in the meeting on Wednesday, February 6:
  1. What are your reactions to this video?
  2. How did you see identity playing out in the video?  Please be more specific than writing "race."  Try and consider specific examples of all people involved in the video.
  3. The woman in the video didn't necessarily have a chance to choose her labels.  How did you see her identity and labeling play out?
  4. Have there been times that you have encountered a similar situation in your own life or someone that you know?
For your blog this week, your task is simple: please find pictures to articulate how you view your personal identity.  Please do not use words in this, just pictures.  We will discuss your pictoral explanations at the meeting on Wednesday!

These are due on Monday, February 4 at 8a.m.

Overcoming Change

Please post your response in either a written or video blog by Friday at 5pm.

Here are some quotes to get you thinking about adaptability:

"They that will not apply new remedies must expect new evils." - Francis Bacon

"If you live in the river you should make friends with the crocodile." - Indian Proverb

"Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change." - Stephen Hawking
